gavpowell
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 I see Khan doing very well. His speed and movement will make it a closer fight than the communal tide suggests. Oh yes, it is on. Raised eyebrows and no Marv Albert scandal! Thank God someone else sees it my way - I was starting to think I was the only one not expecting a murder!
mofo2
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Good option for Khan this fight, he has a chance if he doesn't try and do his usual toe to toe shit when he gets in trouble! Although I expect Canelo will stop him in the mid rounds!
WelshDevilRob
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Why Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan You Ask? by Bobby Mac Roughly equivalent to a Boeing 747 crashing into our rooftops, Golden Boy Promotions dropped a big video from the infinite internet cloud in the sky upon boxing this Tuesday by announcing the inexplicable, Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan fighting May 7th in Las Vegas in a venue to be determined, likely the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena. And yes Virginia, this will be Canelo’s first title defense of his WBC title he won over Miguel Cotto at the end of the year as well as his magic 5th 155 lb catchweight fight, now officially known as the Caneloweight class. Who ever said there was no Santa Claus in May? Big Stars can do such things, and yupsir, slobbering yelps, squawks, squeaks, and pulpy profanities exploded when antisocial media misanthropes responded in collective kneejerk fashion as brain cells short-circuited and neurons took to spontaneous combustion, all part of the orchestration of the unwashed rubes in advance. reznick
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Khan just has no power. And I can't see someone with the lack of power like him in the ring with Canelo.
Ton
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Khan's been whoring himself out for a mega fight for years so it's no surprise. I don't think it's just a matter of him seeking a payday, of course this won't do any harm, but I think he is delusional enough to believe he is top draw enough to warrent "superfight" status. I'm with those who think Canelo will win this but I don't think it will be an absolute demolition job like some are making out. Khans speed could cause some problems, but ultimately you would expect Alvarez to plough through his flurries and land some big shots of his own, probably harder shots than Khan has ever faced before. And following a loss here I wouldn't be so sure that Brook would give Khan a shot at his title, unless somehow the money is too good for Brook to turn down and he see's it as little risk for the reward? lynne.buckley
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 I really like amir, followed him since his amateur days but I really don't think he can win this fight and I'm shocked he took it. I think he would have beat brook. Don't think khans speed will save him.
darran22
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Khan is still chasing the Mayweather fight Khan still feels he can be the only one to beat him hence why Khans fighting Canelo on May 7th Mayweathers day and why Mayweather and Khan had words at ringside the other day , if Canelo doesn't knock out Khan badly then Khans only chance is to use his speed and movement to get a win on points

luizbr
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Khan will probably take the win. JULIEN44
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 The only possibility for Khan is to use Erislandy Lara's blueprint... But since he couldn't stop Algieri, he will not be able to stop Canelo. Canelo by KO (who has better speed than Algieri... in early rounds... Cableaddict
Re: Khan vs Canelo Let's say, Khan vs Canelo had no knockdowns n knockouts, who would win by decision, iyo?? it will depend on the judges. (And who pays them.) Canelo uses mostly head slips for defense, and they are very quick / very subtle. while this is impressive, it also works against a fighter if the judges are either idiots (far too common) or paid to lean towards the other fighter. (far too common.) Look at the Lara fight: Lara was missing all night, but only by the tiniest bit. At the same time, Canelo was pulling his head back (so as to avoid those punches.) To the idiot judge, this looks like the punch landed, and sure enough Lara got a lot of points for punches that missed. I could easily see the same thing happening with Kahn. I could also envision a total dive by Canelo, ala Klitschko-Fury, wherein Canelo would ease up all night and let Kahn win on points, thus setting up an insanely high-paying second fight, in which they'd let Canelo win, thus setting up an INSANELY high-paying third fight. - And all the while, having an excuse to duck Golovkin. (And if you don't think that's exactly what Wlad did, then you need to watch that fight again.) So sez I. ======================= Edited March 3, 2016 by Cableaddict

To the idiot judge, this looks like the punch landed, and sure enough Lara got a lot of points for punches that missed. Lara was smacking Alvarez in the face all night, it's just he allowed Alvarez to look the aggressor all night and thus Canelo got away with it. Defensively I find Alvarez nothing special - he's a strong aggressor but apart from the Trout fight, hasn't shown great competence in avoiding punches. See, that's exactly the problem with using head slips. Even educated fans often don't see it. I don't think Canelo is an elite fighter, but he's got possibly the best defensive head movement in the sport right now.
LondonRingRules
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 --- Canelo is an excellent def fighter as the lack of cuts or markings in his fights show. Mosley did get him once with a butt. Canelo's biggest prob is being the wrong race and nationality and being smarter than the internet monkeys who can only howl anytime he fights. scouseman
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 May 7th cannot come round quick enough for me. It is a very smart move from Khan. No-one is giving him a chance so it is a win win situation for him. If he losses he always has the Brooke fight to fall back on as a massive UK fight. fair play to him to fight Alvares. You should learn to argue better. You said he was missing with everything, that Canelo has this great head movement. I posted pictures of Canelo getting smacked in the mouth to support my argument. You've done absolutely nothing but your usual MO of making bold claims with no evidence and relying on magical thinking to change reality for you. I don't think it's me who needs to learn how to argue. Edited March 23, 2016 by gavpowell
LondonRingRules
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 --- Every fighter lands punches in any fight that goes more than 2 rds. The lady doth protest too much. If she had any kind of decent offense she wouldn't be known as a 90% runner and 10% fighter and 100% crybaby. gavpowell
Re: Canelo alvarez to face amir khan on may 7 Nobody is disputing that Lara, like Rigondeaux, is a victim of his own arrogant idiocy - I had him winning against Canelo but I said at the time, you can't expect to get the judges' decision if you're not throwing enough and letting the other guy look the aggressor. Except if you're American, at which point you're a genius with excellent ringcraft.
