WelshDevilRob
Cotto stops Mayorga in 12 http://fightnews.com/Boxing/31311cotto.jpg By Andreas Hale and Anthony Springer Jr. at ringside Photos: Chris Cozzone WBA super welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs) won a hard fought twelfth round KO over former champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-2, 23 KOs) on Saturday night before a crowd of 7,247 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Both landed big shots in an exciting round one. Cotto fought a very controlled fight, ignoring Mayorga’s attempts to goad him into trading shots. Both fighters continued to throw big and land shots with an edge to Cotto. Mayorga had a strong round seven and looked better than he had in years. Cotto stayed very disciplined and boxed well, finally flooring Mayorga in the twelfth. Mayorga cited a hand injury and the fight was waved off. WBA #7/IBF #10/WBC #12/WBO #12 super welterweight Pawel Wolak (29-1, 19 KOs) impressively dominated and stopped former WBA super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-2, 8 KOs). Wolak was very aggressive and his relentless pressure didn’t allow Foreman to use his normal jab and move tactics. Forman didn’t come out for round seven. IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (28-3, 12 KOs) outpointed previously unbeaten #1 rated Lenny Zappavigna (25-1, 17 KOs) by scores 117-111, 118-110, 118-110. Vazquez was more accurate in his punching and his excellent defense made Zappavigna miss more times than not. Not unexpectedly, Baltimore Ravens safety and former Notre Dame standout turned heavyweight boxer Tommy Zbikowski (2-0, 2 KO) scored a first round KO over Richard Bryant (1-3, 1 KO). A body shot finished the job at 1:45. Unbeaten middleweight prospect Matt Korobov demolished Michael Walker with a first round TKO in a scheduled eight rounder. Korobov (14-0, 9 KOs) blasted “The Midnight Stalker” with a blistering left hook that sent Walker (19-7-2) to the canvas. Although he would rise, his spaghetti legs wouldn’t hold up as he stumbled into the corner and Russell Mora saved him from further damage. Time of stoppage was 1:31. Lightweight Juan Gonzalez kept his unbeaten record intact with a 1st round TKO over Jeremy McLaurin. Gonzalez (11-0, 10 KOs) nailed McLaurin (8-2, 5 KOs) with a crisp right hand that crumbled McLaurin to the canvas. Time of stoppage was 1:56. In a Super Bantamweight bout, Issac Hidalgo (8-7-2) and Jesus Rojas (17-1) slugged it out for six rounds. In the end, Rojas emerged victorious via unanimous decision. Rojas battered Hidalgo in the later rounds and the Tucson, Arizona fighter was nearly dropped late in the bout. As Hidalgo continued to push forward, Rojas picked him apart with hooks and uppercuts. The judges scored the bout 59-55, 58-56, and 59-55. Eric Molina (19-1) defeated Joseph Rabotte (9-15-1) via TKO at 1:56 in the final round. Rabotte spent much of the fight, back pedaling and holding Molina’s trunks. The Texan scored knockdowns in the second, fifth and sixth rounds of the bout. After Rabotte spit his mouth piece out in the sixth, Molina wasted no time applying the pressure to his fatigued opponent, battering him against the ropes. With Rabotte seemingly out on his feet, referee Kenny Bayless halted the bou Source: www.fightnews.com

londoner
Cotto did what was needed. He outboxed Mayorga all night long and stopped him late on albeit due to Mayorga's injury.
